Hobbit discussion question...
Choose one conflict in The Hobbit, and explain how Tolkien uses it to move the story forward. Don't forget to site page number when appropriate.

Character against Character
Bilbo's conflict was with the other dwarves

1st chapter, pages: 9-21
13, a lucky or unlucky number?

Bilbo does not want to go on the adventure, but the dwarves insist that he does, because they need a burgerler to sneak around quietly and take things from other creatures, but they also do not want thirteen people, after all thirteen is an unlucky number. Right?
When Bilbo gives in he does not believe what he has done. He had wished he had not have said that, but he did think to himself,” The Took inside of me won."

This moved the story into the adventure very quickly.

There were so many to choose from, and I think it is WONDERFUL that you recognized this as being a very important one. It was so refreshing to read your response. I would have loved for you to tell me what you mean by the 'Took' side of Bilbo. When you respond like this, you have to pretend that I don't know ANYTHING, and you need to make it so clear for me. What could you add to make this clearer? Great choice of conflict!
